1.General introduction
Zhangjiagang (张家港)is a county-level city in Jiangsu province and is under full administration of Suzhou Prefecture City.  
Zhangjiagang was originally a farming town along the Yangtze River. Fish farms were popular plus a small fishery port. After it was selected as a city permitted to open to foreign trade in 1993, the town started its vast economic development and finally drastic change make it a new city with near 20% annual economic growth. Now the city is one of China's top cities with the highest economic rating.
Surrounding the urban area, most of communities of the city are in rural area and their economies traditionally depended on agricultural and fishing industries. Expatriate population is expanding and up to half million tourists visit the city every year.
Today, the city is doing its best contain pollution to protect its natural environment.

Location & population
It is situated on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and has a population close 1.3 million.
The city borders Suzhou, Wuxi, Changshu and Taicang. It faces Nantong across the Yangtze River, and around 100 km far away from Shanghai.

Economy & industry
Zhangjiagang was traditionally considered an agricultural land but the agriculture sector has been shrinking in the past two decades. In 2006, the revenue from the farming is less than 2% of the city's total GDP.
The city has been in a fast growth of its industrial sectors. Now the industrial income occupies half of the city's total revenue. The GDP has always been ranked at the second in all prefecture cities of the province and is listed No. 3 on the national Top 100 Cities ranking with economic strength.
In order to encourage investment, the government launched campaigns and worked out rules, emphasizing courtesy, mutual respect, and obedience to authority. Thanks to vigorous enforcement, the rules are followed to such a degree that visitors remark on the beauty, cleanliness and friendliness of the city relative to other Chinese cities.
With an expansive metropolis, Zhangjiagang has undergone a significant change in its environment and considerable economic growth since 1993 after the city was selected to be a unique model city of the nation. Modernization has recently led to the rapid constructions of malls, high class establishments, and recreational facilities throughout the city.

2.Transportation
Transportation is greatly improved by building more roads and bridges but the increasing number of vehicles has contributed to the heavy traffic volume. An interstate highway connecting the city with Shanghai was built in recent years, reducing the time of travel between the two locations.
Zhangjiagang is a port city and has 72 km of riverbank of the Yangtze River. Its port has excellent conditions for cargo transportation.

3.Education & Health care
Education
Zhangjiagang has well instituted compulsory primary education system. The secondary schools including high schools achieves significant graduate rate. No higher learning institution is available in the county.
Ther are two higher learning institutions in the city, Shazhou Institute of Technology and Zhangjiagang Campus of China Television University.

Pedestrian Street

Zhangjiagang Pedestrian Street is China's first car-free shopping street and an important window to Zhangjiaguang, a model city across the country. People used to describe it as Singapore in the daytime and Hong Kong at night. Many shopping malls are located on the street and promise to provide “excellent services” and boycott “fake products”. It is indeed a comfortable and safe shopping area.

①Toufu Dish (Bean-curd Dish)
The dish dates from the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty. The only material for the purely hand-made dish is from soybean. The shape and color of chicken,duck, fish and meat are so vivid that you could hardly tell they are made from bean-curd. Restaurants are mostly located in Phoenix Town.

④Luyuan Beggars' Chicken
Luyuan Beggar’s Chicken enjoys a history spanning hundreds of years. It is mainly made of Luyuan Sanhuang Chicken. The stewed chicken smells and tastes wonderful. Tourists can buy it in local specialty stores.

①First Sight Vanilla Garden
The first of its kind in Zhangjiagang, the 160-mu (10.7 hectares) vanilla garden also features other kinds of flowers such as lavender, verbena, chrysanthemum, and dull ice flowers.
Decorative blue lighthouses, Dutch-style windmills, and mini trains pop up out of the sea of flowers, creating a vivid scene and an enjoyable experience for visitors.

The garden will be free to visit on May 19 from 8 am to midday, so look no further for a better flower-filled landscape!

②Xiangshan Scenic Spot
Xiangshan Scenic Spot lies in the west of Jingang town, Zhangjiagang. It is accessible through Zhangyang Road.
It is famous for the scenic beauty and a gathering place for talented people. It is also home to many famous historical sites in the south. The scenic resort is home to Wangjiang Pavilion, where people can view the Yangtze River.
It is also home to Caixiang Path; Shihu Gate, an ancient battlefield; Plum Blossom Hall, where Su Dongpo once lived; Peach Blossom Ravine, where Xu Xiake visited three times; the historical remains of Shengqing Pool, which was visited by Emperor Qianlong; Xiangshan Temple with a history of 1,000 years; and Lingfeng Tower, measuring 64.8-meter high. Xiangshang is home to many other scenic spots that are cheerful and pleasing to the eyes.
