General introduction

图片7.png

Hefei ,the capital of Anhui Province ,was called Luzhou in the ancient. It was

located in the central of Anhui ,between the Yangtze River and Huaihe River. Up

to present, the city has a total area of 11,400 km2, with a population of 7,550,000,

of which 5,700,000 people are permanent residents.

图片8.png

Lying between the Yangtze River and Huaihe River, it is the capital city of Anhui

Province. Covering an area of 7,266 square kilometers (about 2,805 square miles),

it is the key tourist city of the whole province and the best place to know about

the brilliant Anhui culture.

The ancient Hefei City, with a long history of over 2,000 years, was also nicknamed

'Luzhou' or 'Luyang' because it was under the governance of Luzhou prefecture in the

Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing (1644 - 1911) dynasties. The city is the political,

economic and cultural center of Anhui Province and has played an important role in

commercial transactions since ancient times. Due to its good surroundings and long

history, many natural and cultural places of interests can be found here. The most

famous one is undoubtedly the Memorial Temple of Lord Bao.

The city is located in the centre part of East China, and its transportation system

is well-developed. With the whole city's transportation system linked by airport,

railway and highway, a solid transportation network is at your service. Due to its

fast development in recent years, transportation within and around the city is very

convenient, especially for tourists.

It is a scientific and educational city and boasts of many talents both past and

present, such as the famous upright officer Lord Bao in Northern Song Dynasty

(960-1127) along with the Nobel Prize for Physics winner, Yang Zhenning, whose

hometown is Hefei. The University of Science and Technology of China, and the Branch

of the Chinese Academy of Sciences are both located here. There is no doubt that

talented people in the city are foremost in China.

The following data is valid at the end of 2008and is based on some official news

release and the statistics by Hefei Municipal Bureau of Statistics from a sample

of 290 thousand Hefei residents which is about 1.89% of the total population of

Hefei. Among the current population in Hefei, there were about 110,000 expats

working and living in Hefei by November, 2007, according to Hefei Public Security

Bureau.

Climate

Hefei is the capital city of Anhui Province, lying between the Yangtze River and

Huaihe River. Its climate is characterized by a subtropical monsoon type with

four distinct seasons. The average annual temperature is about 15.7C (60.2F),

with a high temperature of 38C (100F) in summer and a low temperature of -21C

(69F) in winter.

The temperature in spring (March to April) is quite warm, but is prone to

fluctuation. Although the natural landscape may be the most beautiful in

spring, the rainy days make it not a suitable time to visit. The average

temperature of summer (May to August) is about 28C (82F), not very hot compared

with other cities in China, but it is also a rainy season. The plum rains-a period

of unsettled weather with frequent, soaking rains- are a prominent feature in the

summer of the city. Starting at the very beginning of June and ending at the end

of July, it offers abundant rainfall for the place but causes some trouble for

travel meanwhile. Do not forget to take your rain gear with you due to this special

weather.

 图片9.png

Compared with the other three seasons, autumn (August to October) may be the best

time to have a visit, because the weather is quite favorable with crisp fall days.

The winter (November to February) is a little bit cold with an average temperature

of -10C (50F), so you will have to be prepared with scarf and warm clothing when

you go there.

Economy & industry

Hefei is the capital and largest city of Anhui Province in Eastern China. The GDP

per capita was US$10,141 in 2013. Modern-day Hefei has diversified industries

covering machinery, electronics, chemistry, steel, textile, and cigarette industries,

etc. Hefei has been identified by the Economist Intelligence Unit in the November

2010 Access China White Paper as a member of the CHAMPS (Chongqing, Hefei, Anshan,

Maanshan, Pingdingshan and Shenyang), an economic profile of the top 20 emerging

cities in China. It also has been identified by The Economist in the December 2012

as the world's No.1 fastest growing metropolitan economy.

Transportation

Hefei Xinqiao International Airport is about 31.8 km (20 miles) from the city center.

It is an important airport, linking this city with many cities home and abroad.

bus no.111 from the Railway Station. Both stations can reach the neighboring cities

of Anhui Province such as Anqing, Bengbu, Wuhu, Haozhou, Huangshan, etc.

There are regular trains running to Nanchang starting from the Railway Station at

10:00 and arriving at Nanchang at 17:35. Another three lines passing the Western

Railway Station are Shanghai → Anqing, Hefei → Anqing, Hefei → Shenzhen.

Fast train codes begin with a D and very fast train codes begin with G.

Hefei to Nanjing (45 minutes, ¥65) numerous times daily

Hefei to Shanghai (3 hours, ¥160) numerous times daily

Hefei to Wuhan (3 hours, ¥106)

Hefei to Beijing about 4 hours ¥427

At present, there is no fast train from Hefei to Huangshan mountains.

highway transportation hubs in China. The two main highways are Hefei-Nanjing-Shanghai

Hefei has over 100 karaoke parlours to choose from, making KTV a convenient and fun

choice for those who need a break from their usual mundane work or study routine.

Below, we introduce some of the most popular venues in the city – but remember:

advance reservations are necessary!

1) Apollo Visual Song City阿波罗视听歌城(温莎旗舰店)

Apollo Visual Song City is one of the largest KTV enterprises in Hefei, with four

branches in the city to date. Its Wensha flagship venue is conveniently located

at the intersection of Shengli Road and Fengyang Road, boasting a large parking

lot for self-driving customers. All four branches in the city are largely identical,

with the exception of some minor differences. The interior at Wensha is sleek

and simple with a large reception room and a wide range of small, medium and

large-sized private booths on offer. The largest private booth can accommodate

100 customers, perfect for company functions and large gatherings. All private

rooms have their own private bathrooms.

Rooms are equipped with state of the art touch screen karaoke machines and

playlists are updated quickly; offering a large selection of Japanese, Korean

and Western songs. Additionally, Appollo has conveniently placed in-house shops,

with snack and drink assortments, in all four branches.

2) Funny Time KTV方糖KTV

Funny Time KTV is situated near Shifu Square. Lining a busy street, Funny Time

is spacious and fairly luxurious on the inside. The audio system and

sound-insulation are both excellent. Funny Time offers small, medium, large

but prices are naturally higher here than at a regular supermarket. This karaoke

parlour is on the expensive side, but if you come during a working day you can

avail of special discounts, such as 3 hours in a small room in the afternoon

for just 80 RMB.

Cuisine

Local specialties include:

Crayfish (小龙虾 xiǎo lóngxiā). This is Hefei's signature food. The longxia are

boiled and then eaten with dipping sauces, usually vinegary or spicy. One pound

(一斤 yijin) of longxia is now around ¥50. Longxia are known as a spicy food

and are typically eaten outside with beer. Chinese are often selective about

where they buy longxia because longxia needs to be cleaned and cooked thoroughly.

Hefei's most famous longxia street is Níngguó Rd. 宁国路龙虾美食街 Níngguó lù

lóngxiā měishí jiē).

Another good area to find longxia is Hupo eat street (琥珀山庄美食街 Hǔpò

shānzhuāng měishí jiē).

Fish Bites Lamb fresh mandarin fish stuffed with lamb

Li Hongzhang's Combination prepared with fresh water prawn, snails, chicken,

sea cucumber, abalone and shark's fin.

Attractions

Situated in the center of Anhui Province, Hefei is a hinterland city which is in

the vicinity of Chaohu Lake and between the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers. Thanks to

the water surrounding it, the city is proud of its enticing natural scenery.

Natural Landscape

图片31.png

The well-known Chao Lake is located in the city and is one of the five largest

fresh-water lakes in China covering an area of about 800 square kilometers (about

309 square miles). There is an abundance of aquatic produce in the lake, amongst

which the whitebait, the shrimp and the crab are known as the three treasures of

Chaohu Lake. The lake is embraced by surrounding green mountains - layer upon

layer of ridges and peaks. The 'moonlit night of the Chaohu Lake' and the 'morning

glow of the four peaks' are two of the ancient eight top scenic spots in Luyang

(present day Hefei).

Houses along the riverside

Houses along the riverside With the assiduous support of the Parks' Horticulture

Department, there are many parks built around the City including Xiaoyaojin Park,

Shushan Forest Park, Wild Animal Park, Arboretum and Huancheng Park which is the

biggest among these parks covering an area of 137.6 hectares (about 340 acres).

This open park connects six scenic areas which form a beautiful image of a 'Jade

Necklace'. These six scenic areas are Baohe Scenic Area featuring the culture of

Lord Bao; Yinhe Scenic Area featuring a waterscape; Xishan Scenic Area featuring

animal sculptures; Hupotan Scenic Area featuring entertainment items, Huanbei

Scenic Area featuring natural environment and wildlife and Huandong Scenic Area

with a visitors' service area to enhance the garden visit. All the scenic areas

contribute to the city ranking as one of the three 'National Park Cities' along

with Beijing and Zhuhai. So, a visit to the city is a must - a wonderful

experience resembling visiting a pleasance.

Human Cultural Landscape

The former residence of Li Hongzhang

The former residence of Li Hongzhang Perhaps Hui Garden, located in Economic

and Technological Development Zone, is a window through which you can best

learn about Anhui Province culture. It covers an area of 20 hectare (about 49

acres) around which the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers flow. It is mainly divided

into two garden areas: Wanbei area featuring Imperial gardens and Wannan area

featuring the world-famous Hui Architectural Style. There are many symbolic

man-made constructions in corresponding sections such as the beautiful Huangshan

Mountain, the Chaolu Lake, the Di Garden, etc. Never miss the opportunity to

explore Hui Garden.

If cultural scenery is more suitable to your taste, then a visit to the historical

and cultural landscapes of the city beckons. The most famous one is called Memorial

Temple of Lord Bao which is located south of the city center in Baohe Park. It is

built to the memory of Bao Zheng, a well-known honorable officer of the Northern

Song Dynasty (960-1127). The Memorial Temple of Lord Bao is a typical architectural

complex built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

As a result of its important historical strategic position, it is an area of

contention among the local powers. Another cultural destination worth a visit is

'Xiaoyaojin (Leisure Ford)' a famous battlefield of the Three Kingdom Period

(220 - 280) and can best elaborate its strategic importance. In this scenic area

there is the Xiaoyao Lake, the Bridge of the Flying Cavalier, the Three Isles in

the lake, and the Cangyou Garden.

The Former Residence of Li Hongzhang is another cultural destination which is a

well preserved former home in the city. It is a typical residence of the south

during the Qing Dynasty. Li Hongzhang was born in the city and held a civil and

military position in the Qing Government. Here you can examine detailed materials

that give comprehensive information of this eminent historical person.
