1. General introduction

Nanchang (Chinese: 南昌) is the capital of Jiangxi Province in southeastern China.[2] As of 2010, a population of 5,042,565 live in the prefecture, in which 2,357,838 live in the area made up of all five

urban districts.[3] Located in the north-central part of the province, it is bounded on the west by the Jiuling Mountains, and on the east by Poyang Lake. Because of its

strategic location connecting the prosperous East and South China, it has become a major railway hub in Southern China in recent decades.

As the Nanchang Uprising in 1927 is distinctively recognized by the ruling Communist Party as "firing the first gunshot against the evil Nationalists",[4] the current regime has therefore named the city since 1949 "the City of Heroes", "the place where the People's Liberation Army was born", and the most widely known "place where the military banner of the People's Liberation Army was first raised".

JD's Bar: NanHu Lu
Opted to sample a beer in JD's Bar on Nan Hu Lu from the reference on wikitravel's Nanchang page. A free plate of snacks arrived with our Gin and Tonic and bottle of Guinness export (totaling about RMB45-50). The bar has a good beer light, an old fashioned sort of red interior and several small rooms good for lively banter no doubt. At 7 or 8 o'clock on a Saturday night it was fairly quiet but showed signs of picking up as the night went on.
A decent selection of beers including German, American, Chinese, etc...
Nothing that I haven't seen before but it's the regulars who make a pub what it is. There are lots of venues to explore all along NanHu Lu.
Would like to visit the area again.
Address: Nan Hu Lu no.28
Directions: Turn right into Nanhu Lu from Minde Lu and walk towards the lake where you will find man quaint looking restaurants and bars.

Minde Lu  Bayi Lake area

A pretty walk along the lake and down the interesting Minde Lu which seemed to come alive at night. Found this great little boutique shop (pictured) selling interesting souvenirs and gifts all shapes and sizes from parasols to pictures to flower pots. The shop owner humourously sat in front of one of the largest collections of CDs that I have ever seen in China. A woman went to take one from the pile, asking the man whether they were for sale and he gracefully shook his head.
All the way down Minde Lu there are some interesting little shops and restaurants, well worth a second look.

Rongmen Lu
One of the easiest places to find looking up Nanchang online is Le Bistro 100. Prior to my trip I found only a few reviews so I was surprised that up this street there are a lot of bars and interesting looking places. Also of note are lots of small art galleries trading in paintings, calligraphy and other kinds of antiques. Well worth a slow walk up, browsing the galleries and music coming form the bars. A cultural kind of road with an entrance into TengWang Ge.

Stewed Chicken with Fermented Rice Wine (sān bēi zǎi jī 三杯仔鸡)

图片23.png

The dish is dark reddish brown, fresh, aromatic and full of flavor and is a good accompaniment whilst drinking beer. Spring chicken is ideal for this dish because the flesh accounts for 60% of the total weight and it is rich in protein. Thus, the meat of spring chicken has high nutritional value and is easily digested. Chinese medicine believes that chicken has multiple functions, like invigorating the body, curing deficiencies, strengthening the spleen and stomach, promoting blood circulation and enhancing the bones and muscles.

Braised Shredded Herring (xún yáng yú piàn 浔阳鱼片)

图片24.png

Many Jiujiang snacks, such as Stewed Fish Fillets in Brown Sauce, have close relation with fish. This dish uses herring as its main ingredient and has the functions of replenishing vital energy and dispelling the cold, nourishing the spleen and stomach and promoting digestion. People, who are deficient in vital energy and have problems associated with the spleen or stomach or who suffer from anorexia could benefit from this dish.

For visitors who are interested in Chinese painting, Badashanren Memorial Hall is a
